Q. How far are you from the airport?
A. About 55 minutes from Durban International Airport , by road during normal traffic.

Q. How far are you from the Port Shepstone CBD?
A. About 20 minutes by road during normal traffic.

Q. How far are you from the beach?
A. Within a short walking distance from a beach and tidal pool. (800 m)

Q. Is Umzumbe a malaria area?
A. No. Most of Southern Africa is in fact malaria free.

Q. Do you offer car hire?
A. No. Unfortunately not but we can bring you in contact with the service providers.

Q. Do you offer airport transfers?
A. No. Unfortunately not but we can bring you in contact with the service providers.

Q. Do you have a Restaurant at the Resort?
A. No. Unfortunately not, but we have numerous Restaurants and fast food outlets in the area.

Q. Do you have a Curio shop at the Resort ?
A. No. Unfortunately not, but we have numerous Curios, arts and craft shops in the area.

Q. How far are you from the Shelly Centre and South Coast Mall?
A. It takes about 30 minutes by coastal road. However the Hibberdene Shopping Centre is right on our doorstep less than 10 minutes away.

Q. Is it safe to swim in the sea?
A. Yes, it is safe provided you do so at recognised swimming beaches. Shark attacks are rare, although more prevalent in recent years. The recent introduction of shark-spotters has been very successful.

Q. What about crime?
A. We have crime like any other international city, but provided you take common sense precautions you are unlikely to encounter serious crime. Precautionary behaviour includes not wearing expensive and flashy jewellery in crowds, avoiding the taxi's and trains, leaving your apartment unlocked, walking alone down dark allies, etc.

Q. Do you have different rates for rentals?
A. Please take note that all Chalets are 6 sleepers.
Out of season rates for a minimum of three nights from R450.00 p/n p/chalet
In Season rates for a minimum of four nights from R550.00 p/n p/chalet

Q. Do you have resort rules?
A. Yes, upon request conditions and general rules can be faxed or e-mailed to you.

Q. What is your check in time?
A. Check in time is strictly after 14:00 pm

Q. What is departure time?
A. Departure time is strictly 10:00 am

Q. Which methods of payment should we use for Breakage/loss deposit?

International transfers:

We accept international electronic transfers, however the fees we are charged for this are high and will need to be added to your final invoice, if you choose this method of payment.

Electronic Bank transfers:

This is our chosen method of payment as it is safe, fast and easy.


Credit Card payments:

We accept Visa and Master cards but not diners and american express

Cash payments:

We accept cash payments, provided these are made in person and pre-arranged with the accounting department. Please keep your receipt in a safe place as no refund will be paid out without your original receipt.

Q. What are the terms and conditions of your breakage deposit?
A. Terms & Conditions

Breakage and Loss Deposit

A R350 breakage and loss deposit applies to all bookings made with us and is refundable within 14 days of your departure. This deposit is payable on arrival. All chalets have an inventory list that can be found in the apartment's Information file [a coloured bound pocket file] and it is your responsibility as the occupant to check your chalet's inventory on arrival to ensure that all the items listed are in the apartment and in good working order. Any of the apartment's contents, including walls, floors, ceilings, artworks, fixtures, fittings, appliances, keys and remote controls, that are found to be either missing, broken, damaged, burnt, stained or unusable after your departure and before the arrival of another occupant, will be repaired or replaced by us and the cost of the replaced or repaired item will be deducted from the R350 breakage and loss deposit before the balance is refunded. If the replacement cost of the item exceeds R350 it is agreed that the difference will be paid to Umzumbe Chalets Share Block Ltd by the occupant, within 7 days of notification of the said shortfall.

Cancellation Policy

An administration fee of R300* applies to cancellations made 4 weeks (28 days) or more, prior to date of arrival. After the administration fee is deducted, the balance of the full rental amount paid is refunded.

A refund of 50% of deposits paid applies to cancellations made up to 21 (3 weeks) prior to date of arrival. No refund is given if a cancellation is received less than 14 days prior to date of arrival.

*This fee is to cover expenses we incur with bank charges, credit reversals, telephone calls, the time we spend rearranging bookings, sundries and petties.
